Service Description

Join our one-day woodturning course, designed for those who may feel uncertain or nervous about woodturning. Similar to the two-day beginner's course, this session provides a focused exploration of the lathe's anatomy, ensuring safe machine use, and mastering the six basic tools. Students will engage in hands-on learning, starting with a practice piece and creating a charming toadstool. The course emphasises fundamental skills, including tool sharpening, tool proficiency, and finishing techniques. Under the guidance of the supportive instructor, Colwin, students will acquire the essential knowledge to improve their woodturning skills. The day's activities include crafting a practice piece and a delightful toadstool, both of which attendees can proudly take home. The course not only delves into tool usage but also covers sharpening techniques, abrasive applications, and diverse finishing methods, providing valuable guidance on when and how to use them effectively. By the end of the course, participants will have the confidence and skills to advance in their woodturning journey. What you will learn: - Safety at the lathe - Tool selection - Use of the basic woodturning tools - The use of abrasives and techniques to get the most out of them - The use of different finishing products The basic six tools you will use are - Roughing gouge - Skew - Parting tool - Bowl gouge - Spindle gouge - Scrapers

CLASSROOM FACILITIES 

The classroom provides individual lathes, complete sets of turning tools, safety gear, and all necessary materials for each student. Located in a well-lit and spacious workshop on a thriving farm shop site, it offers a refreshing environment with opportunities for retail therapy during breaks from turning.

  •  9:30am - 10am            Warm welcome, introductions over coffee 

  • 10am - 1pm                   Workshop time 

  • 1pm - 2pm                     Lunch

  • 2pm - 4pm                   Workshop time

  • 4pm - 4:30pm             Debrief and unwind

Lunch is provided onsite at the farm shops Wonderfull super cosy restaurant 

SAFETY INFORMATION

We provide safety visors and a soft dust mask but feel free to bring your own safety gear. Wear appropriate shoes; no open sandals, deck shoes, or flip-flops. Please inform us of any medical conditions for emergency preparedness.

CANCELATION POLICY

  • Deposit required on signup and balance paid on arrival

  • No refunds are given if you withdraw 6 weeks or less prior to course 

  • If you withdraw up to 2 months before a class, you may apply this amount to future class' within six months of your cancelled class date.

  • Exceptions will be handled on a case-by-case basis
